Fist bump

Everyone knows what it feels like to be lonely.

I will be real with you, I've had my own days in school when I felt like no one truly appreciated me. The only people that acknowledged me on those days were my parents, but who really cares about them? (Just kidding, I love my parents)

And I know that I am not the only one who feels this way sometimes. We all had those moments when we scrolled through Instagram or You Tube on our phones waiting for a text from friends, but it never appeared. This is probably why parents think we are addicted to cell phones.

Experiencing this feeling of emptiness so much, especially during the pandemic (always blame the pandemic right?), I started valuing the act of encouraging others. Encouragement is something that can fuel us to appreciate the small world we live in. Encouragement is the basis to achieve other values in life, like community and personal development. Can you imagine achieving your highest hopes without the support of one and another? Stress in different forms will always drag us down, and we need the motivation to keep our heads up.

The simplest form of encouragement, which is also the one I have recently started doing, is a fist bump.

A small fist bump, whether it is to your closest friend or someone you met recently, can have a massive impact. Just a light tap to acknowledge each other's presence can be a drastic difference between a dark and bright day.

I will always give a light fist bump to people I meet in the hallways and outside of school. If I can't have a good day myself, I will lighten up someone else's day, and knowing that I made his or her day better is what makes me happy.
